A FIFO job in Perth is hired in Perth and worked somewhere else: you live in the city, fly to a remote site for your swing, and fly back. Three kinds of employer do the hiring. Mining companies run the sites, service companies run the camps, and recruitment agencies fill roles for both. The fastest search goes to their own careers pages first, then to the job boards.
This guide lists who hires, using only what each company says on its official careers page, and where to look. It was checked in October 2026. It is not a ranking, and a careers page is not a job offer.
What does "FIFO jobs in Perth" really mean?
The work is not in Perth. The hiring, the flights and your home are.
Jobs and Skills Australia says most mining jobs are in Western Australia and Queensland, mainly in regional or remote locations such as the Pilbara. Of the people working as drillers, miners and shot firers nationally, 45.2% are in WA. The WA Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration counted 138,257 full-time equivalent on-site positions in mining and mineral exploration in 2024-25, and 9,428 on-site people in petroleum.

Those sites are well beyond commuting range, so employers fly their people in from set airports. Fortescue and Mineral Resources, for example, both name Perth as a departure point. If the words are new to you, start with what does FIFO mean?.
Who hires FIFO workers out of Perth?
Each line below reports what the company's own careers page says. Go to the page, read it, and apply there.

This is a starting list, not a complete one. Contractors also hire for WA sites, in areas such as drilling, maintenance, construction and transport. Jobs and Skills WA suggests making a list of the companies you are interested in and searching for each one, or using the member list of the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA as a directory.
Which jobs do they hire for?
Jobs and Skills WA says there are over 150 different occupations in the state's resources sector. On site, the Jobs and Skills Australia profile for mining shows where the numbers are. The ten largest occupations in the industry are:
- Drillers, miners and shot firers
- Metal fitters and machinists
- Other building and engineering technicians
- Electricians
- Truck drivers
- Mining engineers
- Production managers
- Geologists, geophysicists and hydrogeologists
- Earthmoving plant operators
- Structural steel and welding trades workers

Around the site there is a second workforce that keeps the camp running. Jobs and Skills WA points out that the staff on a mine site includes chefs and cooks, cleaners, electricians, plumbers and many others. Those camp roles are one of the ways in without mining experience. If you are starting from zero, read how to get a FIFO job with no experience before you apply.
Not every mining job flies. BHP, for example, describes a repair centre in Welshpool whose teams rebuild mining equipment without leaving Perth. If you want the industry without the roster, search for Perth-based roles too.
Where should you look for FIFO jobs?
Jobs and Skills WA, the state government's careers service, says most job opportunities are advertised online and lists where to start.
- Company careers pages. Its top tip is the direct approach: most of the major resource companies operating in WA advertise jobs on their own websites or social media pages.
- The Jobs and Skills WA jobs board. It lists jobs across WA, including FIFO and DIDO roles, apprenticeships and traineeships.
- General job sites. It names SEEK and Indeed.
- Recruiters. It names Programmed for mining, oil and gas jobs, and notes that some companies specialise in recruitment for the sector.
- A Jobs and Skills Centre. Free help with your CV, applications and interviews. Call 13 64 64.

Two habits save time. Set job alerts on each careers page: BHP, for one, says new roles are advertised frequently and that apprenticeship intakes are seasonal. And search by role as well as by "FIFO", because the ad for a trades assistant or a utility may not have FIFO in the title.
Which recruitment agencies hire for FIFO?
Agencies are a normal way into site work. A mining company or contractor asks the agency for people, and the agency employs or places them. Here is what three of them say about themselves.
- Chandler Macleod describes itself as a mining recruitment agency that places FIFO trades and machinery operators through to engineers, and lists entry-level FIFO mining jobs and FIFO cleaning and camp support jobs among the roles it recruits.
- WorkPac lists the mining roles it recruits for, from dump truck, excavator and fixed plant operators to diesel fitters, electricians, drillers and trades assistants. It says shortlisted candidates may go through an interview, reference checks, a pre-employment medical and verification of documents.
- Programmed is the recruiter Jobs and Skills WA names for mining, oil and gas jobs.

How to deal with an agency:
- Register on the agency's own website, not through a link someone sends you.
- Ask who the employer of record is, what the roster is, and which airport you fly from.
- Ask whether the role is casual, fixed term or permanent, and get the rate in writing.
- Treat any request to pay to register, or to be put forward for a job, as a warning sign.
That last point matters. Scamwatch warns that scammers impersonate real recruiters and well-known companies, and lists a request for a recruitment fee or payment for training materials as a warning sign. Its advice is to contact recruitment agency representatives using phone numbers you have found yourself. Rio Tinto says the same about its own name: it will never ask for payment during hiring, and genuine emails come from @riotinto.com.

What does the hiring process look like?
It varies by company, but Fortescue publishes its own, and it is a fair picture of what to expect.
- An online application through the careers website.
- An interview based on the company's values, in person or online, usually with two or three people.
- For some roles, an assessment day with group activities.
- A pre-employment medical assessment.
- Background, police and identification checks.
Fortescue says the whole process can take anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks, depending on the role and the number of applications, and that it cannot give individual updates because of the volume it receives. Plan your money and your housing around weeks, not days.
Do you need to live in Perth?
You need to live where the plane leaves from. Fortescue says it flies its Pilbara workforce from Perth, Busselton, Broome, Karratha, Port Hedland, Newman, Fitzroy Crossing and Kununurra, and that if you live outside those places you arrange and pay for your own flights to one of them. Mineral Resources says its air service operates from Perth and Brisbane. Check the pick-up points for each employer before you apply.
For most people that makes Perth the practical base, and the airport the centre of the map. A room near it, in Redcliffe, Belmont, Cloverdale or Ascot, shortens every fly-out day. Ask your employer which terminal your flights use before you choose: where to live in Perth as a FIFO worker compares the suburbs. People already doing it describe what they look for in simple terms: airport access, "as we are all flying in and out regularly".
If you are moving for the job, do it in the right order: moving to Perth for FIFO work: the complete checklist. Your roster decides how many nights you will actually sleep in the room, and FIFO rosters explained has the numbers. For what the work pays after tax, see FIFO salary: what workers really take home. And wherever you find a room, inspect it before you pay: the warning signs are in rental scams in Perth.
Kipmates is a room-share marketplace launching in Perth. Your roster is a field on your profile, hosts can mark a household as FIFO-friendly, and listings show the weekly rent and the move-in date. You can browse rooms once you have a start date. If you already live in Perth and have a spare room, a FIFO housemate is away for a good part of every cycle: you can list a room.
